After 30 years of employment with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, James R. Columbia retired in 2011 as Manager of the Records and Research & Statistics Divisions of the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts. These divisions are responsible for maintaining criminal record information for the court system, and access to that data for the public.

In this role, Mr. Columbia served as the State Records Officer for the Kentucky Court of Justice, and as a Court of Justice representative on the State Records Retention Committee at the Kentucky Department of Libraries & Archives.

He previously served as the Information Systems Supervisor for the Kentucky Court Designated Worker Program, and in this capacity supervised development of a statewide, electronic case management and data system for juvenile offender records.

Mr. Columbia is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, College of Business. He has been a Life Member of the Kentucky Historical Society since 1978, and is a Kentucky Colonel. He is an ninth-generation resident of Mason County, Kentucky, with direct ancestors from every adjacent county.
